ELF Introduces Comfort Packs for Patients

Exeter Leukaemia Fund is delighted to announce the charity is funding comfort packs for patients at the RD&E Hospital, Haematology Centre.

These free packs contain items such as shower gel, E45 cream, lip-salve, drinks and parking vouchers and will be given to new haematology in-patients to help them with their stay in hospital.

The idea originated from a member of the ELF Exmouth Supporter Group who says “In 2008 my daughter was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia and was admitted as an emergency to Bristol Royal Infirmary Haematology Unit where she realised she needed certain personal items immediately to ease her discomfort. A patient, who is now a close friend of my daughter, also felt that there was a lack of support and after their treatment they decided to form a support group and had the idea to fund and offer a support pack to give to all patients when admitted to the unit. My daughter and the groups personal experience and research, along with the agreement of medical staff in Bristol, enabled them to design a pack that would be helpful to patients upon admission. After talking to the ELF team I am delighted that they have taken up the idea to help support people at the Haematology Centre in Exeter in a similar way.”

“Coming into hospital is a challenging experience, emotionally and financially for many. Speaking to ELF supporters, many who have firsthand experience of the Centre see great benefit in the introduction of these very practical packs. I am delighted we can help in this way. ” said Pat Aldridge, ELF Trustee.
