One year of fundraising challenges for ELF supporter Jess

Not content with undertaking one fundraising challenge in aid of ELF, Jess Green is tackling twelve challenges over twelve months!

In September, Jess approached ELF with her idea of an epic year of fundraising. After seeing several family members diagnosed with blood cancer in recent years, Jess was keen to support the Haematology Centre where they were all treated, by giving back to ELF.

"With my Uncle, Nan and then Dad all being diagnosed with various forms of Leukaemia and Lymphoma over the last few years, I quickly became aware of ELF. My Dad (Tony) has been in and out like a yo yo to Yarty Ward for the last 6 months with some seriously grim chemo and a stem cell transplant, and it's lovely to know that charities like ELF exist."

Jess kicked off the twelve with a gruelling trek along the 95 mile Jurassic Coastal path in September: "It was 10x harder than I planned for. The heatwave definitely made things more challenging and heatstroke was not good! It tested me physically and mentally throughout"

This was followed by the completion of 96,560 meters on a rowing machine (the length of the River Exe) during October and then cycling the North Dartmoor Way in November. This time it was rain and wind Jess had to deal with, meaning avoiding giant puddles and having to pedal downhill at times due to the wind!

The remaining challenges Jess will be completing include running the Exeter Half Marathon and the 10 mile Granite Way in Okehampton, plus jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft in ELF's Group Skydive in June. Jess has already raised an amazing £1,450 in sponsorship; funds which will ensure that ELF is at hand to help many other families following a blood cancer diagnosis.

We wish Jess much luck with the next nine events and we'll provide an update on her progress in the new year. To sponsor Jess's herculean efforts, please visit:
