Exminster Golf Centre raise a whopping £10,000 for Exeter Leukaemia Fund

Exminster Golf Centre recently hosted a superb day of fundraising in line with Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

A golf competition was held for club members on Saturday 4th June, followed by a Platinum Jubilee Ball in the evening, at which guests enjoyed traditional fayre of fish & chips, homity pie, sherry trifle and bread & butter pudding. Entertainment was provided by an Adele tribute act and band Liverpool Echo with their sounds from the 60’s, all rounded off with a disco into the early hours of the following morning.

Traditionally the centre raises money for different local charities at such events, but this year the day took on special significance when Luci, daughter of centre owner Richard Candy, was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier in 2022.

Luci, determined to give back in lieu of the amazing support received following her diagnosis, made it her goal to use her time in hospital to make this event bigger than any before. Luci’s superb efforts increased the fundraising thanks to the kind support of Exminster Golf Centre members, suppliers, and local businesses. Luci sourced an amazing selection of auction and raffle prizes, which, alongside the amazing generosity of members donations, helped contribute to a grand sum of £4661 raised at the event.

Exminster Golf Centre kindly decided to double the amount raised and then round it up to a whopping £10,000!

Luci commented ‘I cannot thank everyone who supported our fundraising efforts enough. I continue to receive great treatment from the team on Yarty Ward at the RD&E, along with support from the unbelievable people at ELF, so it is nice to give something back. We had a great day, not only celebrating Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, but also raising funds for a wonderful charity along the way.’

ELF fundraiser Gary added ‘We would like to thank Exminster Golf Centre and the superb staff team for hosting this fantastic event and for matching the amount raised, the Golf Centre members for their support, and all the businesses who contributed to the event with prize donations. And a HUGE thank you to Luci, who should be very proud of all her hard work and without whom this superb fundraising total would not have been possible. The £10,000 donation will help Exeter Leukaemia Fund support many more families whose lives have been turned upside down by blood cancer and related conditions.’
